Until 2006 there was a prohibition on the production of agricole – Rum made from sugar cane juice – as the island was so heavily reliant on its sugar-refining industry, but with the lifting of that ban came a minor explosion of the product and Mauritius is now setting out its stall as a global provider of Rum. Among them is \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003eGold of Mauritius Rum\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e and the craft team behind it, led by Frederic Bestel.\u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\t \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\t\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003eGold of Mauritius Dark Rum\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e is made with molasses, held in \u003cstrong\u003e\u003cem\u003ePort wine barrels\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e for three months before going through filtration and adjustment then spending a further eight to 12 months in barrels.
