In \u003cstrong\u003e1936\u003c\/strong\u003e, Don José's three sons convinced him to start distillation and voilà — the birth of Ron Abuelo Rum. \u003cbr\u003e\r\n \u003cbr\u003e\r\nIn Central America, the word “Ron” means Rum. “Ron Abuelo” roughly translates as “\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRum of our Grandfather\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e”. There is no official designation for Rums like this, but since Ron Abuelo controls \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eevery aspect of production\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e — from growing their own cane through bottling — you could call it an Estate Rum.
