That sounds like a lot, but to put things in perspective, Glenlivet does that much in a month. \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\t \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\tScapa Distillery is found on the coastal shores of the mainland of the \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eIsle of Orkney\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, hence, it gets the nickname, “The Orcadian.” All the malt from Scapa is set aside to be released as single malt—every single drop—and that is pretty unusual these days. And fans will tell you that it has “\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eproper peating\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e,” meaning that the water from the distillery flows from a peat bog, but the malted grain is not dried over peat, so there is a hint of\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e natural peat \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003ein the glass \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ewithout the smoke\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e. If you haven’t tried it, it’s a mighty fine line worth the try. \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\t \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\tScapa is \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003efamous \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003efor their core 16 YO dram. But just last year they introduced \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ea new product\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, and that’s what we are hear to talk about today. The name \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSkiren \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003ecomes from a Norse word meaning “glittering sky,” and this one earns the name. \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\t \u003cbr\u003e\r\n\r\n\tThe Scapa malt is famous for it’s \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003enatural honied character\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, and the blokes at Scapa don’t want anything to get in the way of that. So even thought they prefer the quality of \u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAmerican oak\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e, they use first-fill casks so all that you taste is the malt and nothing else. And that special taste sparkles in the glass. This may sound odd, but this great northern Single malt tasted like Scotland itself.
